Paraformaldehyde (abbreviated as PFA, CAS: 30525-89-4) is a low-polymerization-degree polymer of formaldehyde, with the molecular formula OH(CH₂O)ₙH (n is usually 8-100). It appears as a white amorphous powder, odorless or slightly with a pungent odor of formaldehyde, insoluble in cold water, easily soluble in hot water, and decomposes into formaldehyde, and also soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers. It is widely used in many industrial fields and is an important intermediate connecting basic chemicals and fine chemicals.
